Roll Out Of LED Lighting Begins In The Vale

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is due to begin the process of converting 4000 street lights across the county to LED technology as part of a £1.3m investment into street lighting. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The roll out, which will eventually cover every residential street, is due to commence in the next few weeks. It will be completed by the end of this year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Investing in LED lanterns for ‘standard’ lighting in residential streets represents the latest stage of the local authority’s street lighting strategy and will bring further energy savings and reduce C02 emissions for the Vale. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Once installed the LED lanterns will be exempt from part-night lighting and will therefore remain on throughout the night.
Penarth will be the first area to receive LED lighting and the roll out will then progress westwards across the Vale. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Details of the installation programme will be made available before the installation begins. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Peter King, Cabinet Member for Building Services, Highways and Transportation said: “I am pleased to announce this significant investment from the Council in residential street lighting which will reduce the Council’s energy costs and carbon emissions”. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A further phase to convert ‘non-standard’ lanterns to LED will begin later in 2017. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
