Proposals for the latest development of new council homes for the Vale are being refined following a consultation event held in Barry earlier this month. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The redevelopment of the old Brecon Court sheltered housing site will provide purpose built homes for those that most need them. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Current proposals will see the construction of nine two bedroom houses, four three bedroom family houses, and fifteen one bedroom apartments reserved for older people. All of the new homes will be constructed to Welsh Government standards for social housing. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

To help shape the final design of the homes local residents were invited to a consultation event held at Jenner Park on 08 March. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

A spokesperson for the Council’s housing team said: “Those that attended were generally supportive of the scheme but raised some concerns about parking during events at the stadium. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“With this in mind we will now look at amended the layout of the development to provide more car parking. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We are also considering designating one apartment for communal use to provide a community space for older residents. We plan to hold a further consultation event later this year where we hope to be able to present final plans for the scheme.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Demolition of the old sheltered accommodation at Brecon Court began in February and is likely to be completed in late Spring. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
