Swansea has been ranked the second-highest scoring university in the whole of the UK for the second year in Stonewall’s annual list of the 100 most inclusive places to work. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

‌Stonewall’s latest Workplace Equality Index received submissions from over 430 UK businesses and institutions with over 90,000 employees completing a staff survey nationally. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Annual Index is used to assess their achievements and progress on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusion in the workplace and is a powerful benchmarking tool ‌used by employers to create inclusive workplaces. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cath Elms is the co-chair of the LGBT+ Staff Network at Swansea University, a Network group for staff who identify as LGBT+. She said: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Swansea University continues to make progress in the Stonewall Top 100 Employer Index, moving from 36th place last year to 31st in the UK this year. Since the university first took part in the Workplace Equality Index we have risen 308 places and have sustained progress during the past 6 years which has had a positive impact on the work environment and experiences of our LGBT+ community. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

We are very proud of our reputation as an institution that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusivity. This year, the university’s LGBT+ Staff Network has been awarded the Stonewall ‘Highly Commended Network Group’ award and we aim to build on this success for the future”. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
