The first Pembrokeshire cricket title of 2017 has been won by Tasker Milward girls U13s. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

They came out on top in the best of three final against their counterparts from Pembroke in the Pembrokeshire round of the Lady Taverners indoor (schools) competition. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The competition, played in the Dome at Tasker Milward School was arranged by Sport Pembrokeshire, the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The games were umpired by Cricket Development Officer Martin Jones, Community Cricket Coach Rick Walton and Phil Llewellyn, Callum Jenkins, Tom Carrington and Ewan Dyer from Tasker Milward school ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

With Welsh international Maisey Davies in their ranks, Taskers were always favourites for the competition although Pembroke pushed them close. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In the U15s round Greenhil, Tasker Milward, Ysgol Dewi Sant, Sir Thomas Piction and Milford Haven schools battled it out with the competition split into two groups. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Greenhill just edged it over Ysgol Dewi Sant in the final who overcame the challenge of the highly fancied Tasker Milward in their group. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Welsh international Tirion Eynon captained them to the win. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Batting first, Greenhill scored 279 for the loss of just 3 wickets with Ysgol Dewi Sant needing four off the last ball to win. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

With nerves frayed on both sides, a dot ball ensured there was no score from it with Greenhill winning a close game. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“It was an excellent day’s cricket,” said Cricket Development officer Martin Jones. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The emphasis on the day was fun and enjoyment and the girls certainly had that,” he added. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Hopefully Taskers and Greenhill can enjoy the Welsh finals in Cardiff and with a little bit of luck, we may have a Pembrokeshire representative in the UK Finals at Lords in May.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
