Newport City Council and Tata Steel subsidiary UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE) run a joint grant scheme to help new businesses. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cazanofa Tailors in Commercial Road is the latest venture to benefit from the Kickstart programme. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Gamar Timan, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the trade, runs the traditional tailors where he undertakes both alterations and makes bespoke suits and dresses. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

He began trading last year after he spotted a gap in the market for his skills in the Pill area. The start-up business grant he received was used to buy specialist sewing machines. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor John Richards, Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Investment, said: “It’s great to see new businesses setting up in our city and fantastic that UKSE, working in partnership with the council, is able to give a helping hand to some of our enterprising residents.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Martin Palmer, investment executive with UKSE, said: “We are delighted to provide support for this new venture which is serving to retain traditional skills and create jobs in the area for the benefit of the people of Newport.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
