In-Cab Technology Will Improve Newport’s Waste Collection Service
Newport City Council has introduced new technology to help improve the waste collection service for residents.
Waste crews are now able to log incidents on site, report damaged bins and to relay problems back to customer service staff as they carry out their daily rounds using in-cab digital tablets.
This in turn creates a more efficient service, so when residents have a query or complaint, the information on the issue is more readily available and response times for enquiries will be improved.
The in-cab technology is being provided in conjunction with Yotta, a specialist software provider, to provide smarter links between council services.
The project is part of the council’s commitment to invest in innovative technology to improve, modernise and streamline its services.
Councillor Ray Truman, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Sustainability and Transport said staff had readily taken on board the new ways of working.
“This latest project is contributing to Newport being a digital city, and it should mean our residents and local businesses will see improvements in the service, with problems being reported quickly, which in turn will lead to a reduction in response times” said Cllr Truman.
