‘Thank you for all your patience and hard work’ is the message from Neath Port Talbot Council as the Recycle+ rollout is nearly complete. By the end of this month close to 100% of residents in the County Borough will be on the new recycling system. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Over the last few years residents have seen big changes to the way they have been asked to recycle to help achieve strict targets. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

And Neath Port Talbot is performing well. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Latest figures show that we are now recycling more than 60% of our waste, compared to 58% in the same period last year and we are making good progress towards the next target of recycling 64% in 2019/20. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Over the last few years the Council has kept the service under review, making changes and responding to feedback from customers. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This has included the introduction of the Recycle+ service to make it easier for residents to recycle more materials more often. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Council also invested in extra kerbside recycling vehicles and some smaller vehicles will be in operation soon to support recycling in some of the more difficult to access places in the County Borough. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

We understand that changes need time to bed in and would like to thank our residents and particularly those who are new to Recycle+ for their support and patience. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor Ali Thomas OBE, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said: “I am delighted with the recycling performance in Neath Port Talbot. We could not have achieved this without the backing of householders and I want to thank residents for all their efforts. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We have introduced a number of initiatives over the last few years and clearly they are working. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“However, there is still some way to go with a recycling target of 64% to be reached by 2019/20. We will keep our recycling service under review and continue to improve it and make it easier for residents to recycle even more.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
