You could be forgiven for thinking war has broken out if you happen to be in Llanelli on October 6. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Air raid sirens will be wailing, bombs dropping and as many as 60 children dressed as evacuees will be mingling with Land Army girls, munition workers and Winston Churchill. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

It is all part of an ambitious project undertaken by Ty Golau at Llanelli’s Antioch Centre. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The voluntary group of Janet Lewis and her friends organise different themes for the weekly health and wellbeing sessions for people aged 50+ in homes all over Llanelli, Pembrey, Burry Port and Kidwelly. Many have dementia. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Organiser Janet said what started off as a low key ‘war years’ theme had grown beyond all recognition. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Ty Golau volunteers will be dressed in costume, as will some of the care workers from the care homes that attend. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

One of the service users – if he is well enough- plans to be there in full formal Navy dress. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for social care and health, Cllr Jane Tremlett, said: “Janet never ceases to amaze with her passion for detail for these sessions that reawakens memories in all who attend. This one seems to be extra special with children involved.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Mrs Lewis said at the end of the hectic session the Last Post will be sounded with all standing to remember the fallen. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
