Something For Everybody At Cardiff Bay This Weekend

Lifesaving dogs, an 18 metre inflatable whale, pirates and an inland beach are just a few of the attractions at this weekend’s Cardiff Harbour Festival. High speed powerboat and jet ski racing also return to Cardiff Bay as the P1 Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea is back for the third year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Cardiff Harbour Festival is running alongside the P1 Welsh Grand Prix offering entertainment for all the family, live music and street food throughout the bay this bank holiday weekend. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives, and Social Enterprise, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: “This annual event is a family favourite on the Cardiff Festival events programme, delivering fantastic entertainment both in and out of the water. With our magnificent Cardiff Bay as the backdrop, visitors can expect to be wowed by the P1 Grand Prix vessels as they create waves in the water. Back on dry land there is an exceptional array of entertainment and street theatre guaranteed to amuse people of all ages as well as great food and drink and the impressive Capital FM Cardiff Bay Beach situated in Roald Dahl Plass.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This will be P1’s third visit to the capital and the high-speed racing has become a ‘must see’ event over the holiday weekend. Spectators can watch all the action on the water from Mermaid Quay and Barrage Walk and the racing gets underway around 11.00am on both Sunday and Monday. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

P1 chief operating officer, Robert Wicks says: “Our racers and riders will be competing for national titles and, with its stadium-like setting and great facilities, Cardiff Bay provides us with an outstanding race venue.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The fleet of eleven powerboats, that includes the Visit Wales race boat, and more than thirty jet ski riders will be competing in the fourth round of the P1 national championships and there will also be spectacular hydroflight and freestyle displays to enjoy. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Festival highlights include lifesaving demonstrations by Newfoundland Rescue Dogs, an 18 metres long inflatable whale, a pirate-themed childrens’ show, the Capital FM Cardiff Bay Beach, craft and food stalls, street theatre performances and a wide range of live music acts outside the Norwegian Church. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
