Officers from the Roads Policing Unit and Commercial Vehicle Unit, which also involve the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) held a road safety operation in the area on Saturday, January 21st January whereby numerous vehicles were checked. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The tractor was stopped on the outskirts of Bangor and it was immediately prohibited. It will now be examined by a North Wales Police Forensic Vehicle Examiner and the driver will be interviewed at a later date. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

During the day another driver had to arrange his own transport after he was found to be driving with no valid licence, insurance, MOT or road tax. He was also found to be contravening a previous prohibition for dangerous defects and his vehicle was seized. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Two drivers were issued with fixed penalties for overloaded vehicles – one was overloaded by 65% and the other by 45%. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Another driver was given a graduated fixed penalty of £400 at the roadside for tachograph offences and another was fined £300 at the roadside for a breach of driver prohibition offence. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

PC Scott Martin from the Roads Policing Unit said: “We carry out regular checks as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping the roads safe for all. A minority of people flout the law and think they can get away with it. We will continue to take action against drivers who commit offences on our roads.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

A total of 16 Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) were issued for various Fatal 5 offences including drivers using their mobile phones and failing to wear a seatbelt. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Eight VDR’s (Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme) were also issued for defective windscreen wipers and brake lights. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
