Boost For Dolgellau Dementia Clinic
An array of new equipment is on its way the Outpatient Dementia Clinic at Dolgellau and Barmouth Cottage Hospital thanks to the helping hand of a local officer.
PCSO Gareth Jones applied for a Police And Community Trust (PACT) grant for the Cottage Hospital and has made a huge impact with his application as he succeeded in gaining a £150 grant.
Thanks to the grant, a range of new equipment will be bought by the hospital that will contribute to a reduction in agitation and confusion for dementia sufferers and that will also provide an increase in the trust and confidence of patients using the dementia services.
Included in this equipment are laminated photographs of outpatient staff to assist patients in staff identification and to provide reassurance, a dementia friendly wall clock with improved legibility, magnetic staff name tags on consultation rooms and an iPod and speakers to provide music in the patient waiting area.
The outpatient department is working to towards being granted “dementia friendly” status and the new equipment will help to achieve this.
Dave Evans from North Wales PACT said: “We are delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile project that strengthens the relationship between the local policing team and the hospital. It is plain to see that the staff at Dolgellau and Barmouth Hospital are committed to providing an excellent service to their community, and we hope that this contribution of £150 from our Small Grant Fund will help to support their valuable work with those suffering from dementia.
