Work is progressing well on developing the new 3G pitch in Bala. Representatives from Bala Town FC, Gwynedd Council, and local schools recently visited the site to see how the development is coming along.
The new synthetic 3G surface will be installed at Maes Tegid and the work completed over the next few weeks with an official opening to be held in early autumn. This innovative scheme is jointly funded by Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Football Association
Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Education said: “I am very pleased to see that the 3G pitch is moving along so well. This is an important development for the community and the schools of Bala catchment, and one that offers quality resources and opportunities to pupils during school hours as well as to users of the Bala football club and other clubs in the area.”
In addition to the investment of £10 million to establish a modern 3-19 learning campus on the current site of Ysgol Y Berwyn, a library, community cinema as well as the 3G pitch will be available as additional community services for Bala and the surrounding area.
Councillor Dilwyn Morgan, representing Bala and Gwynedd Council said: “This is an exciting time for the Penllyn area and it is a pleasure for me to be associated with this aspect of the development of the campus. The community facilities will be an added resource, not only for local pupils, but also for all members of the community. It will be essential for young people inspired by the success of the national team as well as Bala Town, to have access to good quality facilities and equipment, particularly in a rural area.”
The new 3G pitch is designed to provide excellent playing conditions whatever the weather. As Meirionnydd, and particularly the Bala area, receives a heavy annual rainfall, this significant investment will greatly improve everyone’s ability to play games throughout the year.
Chief Executive Officer of Bala Town Club, Nigel Aykroyd said: “We are delighted to be working with Gwynedd Council’s Education Department to encourage all school children in the area to participate in physical activities and develop their football skills. I look forward to both Bala Juniors football team and the school team making extensive use of the new pitch. “
