Denbigh Gets Prepared To Kick Start The Tour Of Britain’s Welsh Visit
A host of free activities for the whole family will be taking place in and around Denbigh as the town gears up to welcome the start of the prestigious Tour of Britain to the county in early September.
Denbigh will host the ceremonial start of Stage 4 on Wednesday, September 7 with cyclist making their way to Builth Wells. The day will be the longest of all the stages and will also see cyclists tackle the most climbing, with a total ascent of 4,133m, as they feel the force of the Welsh mountains with the stage heading through the Clwydian Hills and Cambrian Mountains.
Starting in Denbigh Town Centre, the race will head towards Bodfari and leave Denbighshire into Flintshire. It will head into Mold and through Pontblyddyn, Coed Talon, Treuddyn before it re-enters Denbighshire near Llandegla.
The race will then travel along the A5104 through Bryneglwys and on to the A5 at Corwen before turning for Cynwyd and Llandrillo.
Denbighshire County Council has arranged a host of activities at the start of the race, to entertain the crowds and to promote cycling and well-being related activities. Activities will be held at Crown Square, Denbigh from 9am on the morning of the race (or in the Town Hall if the weather is not good).
Activities will include a Watt bike challenge, bike safe marking, face painting, toddler bike area, spinning bikes and more.There will also be information stands from Rhyl Cycling Club; Sustrans; Cycling UK; Welsh Cycling; Bike Hub; Denbighshire’s Leisure, Countryside and Road Safety teams.
Denbigh Business Group will also be providing three tour guides to offer free two- hour guided walks at three different times throughout the day.
There will be a Head in the Hole for pictures created by a local artist Sarah Carvell, a local choir, Circus Chimera will be there with their unicycles and the Business Group has also purchased 10 gold bicycles that Denbighshire County Council will be locating around Denbigh and the route.
The Council’s Economic and Business Development team have also been hosting a window dressing competition for all local businesses along the route to take part in, tying into the Council’s #lovelivelocal campaign. These will remain on display for the event.
